Description


Geology of National Parks is designed to enhance student understanding of key geological concepts by examining features from selected national parks. Landscape genesis and evolution is studied in relation to the wider scope of regional geologic history. One 3-day field trip is required. Lecture: 3 hours per week

Assessment


Grading:  The grade for the course will be determined as follows:

 

                             Attendance                       5%  

                             Exam 1                            20%

                             Exam 2                            20 %

                             Exam 3                            20%

                             Final Exam                      20%

                             Oral Presentation           15%

 

Class Presentations:  Oral presentations will be 15 minutes in duration followed by a 5 minute question session.  Handouts of selected material and diagrams will be passed out to fellow class members for future reference.  Details of expectations regarding presentations will be covered during lecture.

 

Field Trip:  A class field trip to Glacier National Park is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23.  Students are expected to participate in the trip; in case of schedule conflicts, appropriate term paper work will be arranged.
